Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both attorneys. As a child she was enrolled in the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma decided to be an actor at age six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing, dancing and acting. By the age of ten she had performed and taken the lead in various Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. The casting process began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's screen debut was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's debut in the year 2001. The film is 2001's top grossing film, breaking records during the opening day as well as the first weekend. It was highly acclaimed by experts, and also by the performances of its three young starlets. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma was awarded five nominations for her outstanding performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of an Film.
